The Department of Entomology has a long tradition of being one of the world's leading research groups in systematic entomology. We have a truly global focus in our documentation of insect and spider biodiversity, using phylogenetic arguments and reasoning as a methodological platform for evolutionary, biogeographical and comparative morphological studies. Taxa presently under study are mainly calyptrate Diptera, Trichoptera, cynipid Hymenoptera, Odonata and Aranea. Our large insect collection with more than 2.5 M specimens is continuously expanding from extensive field work around the world, mainly in tropical and subtropical regions.
